About this client/child:
Lexi aged 5 enjoys music, lots of interactive play and long walks outside. Her 22-month-old sister Evie is constantly on the go and is currently into everything! Lexi is autistic and has Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). Lexi is pre-verbal and communicates predominantly by leading physically, however, does have vocabulary of about 50 words. Lexi requires full support with all personal care and is currently in nappies. Her younger sister Evie is neurotypical but has severe allergies to nuts, fish and raw eggs for which an epi-pen is required.

Overview of role:
The SEN Nanny will be working closely with mum as both children require 1:1 attention. Your focus will be Lexi, but there will be occasions where you will assist with Evie too. The first 2 hours of the shift (1.00 to 3.00 pm) will involve light housework that is particularly focused around the girls. It is then time to pick Lexi up who attends a mainstream school a short walk from the family home. Once you have collected Lexi this is a great time to engage with a variety of activities; it is important to have a few ideas up your sleeve and think ahead, Lexi’s engagement and interest will be depending on her mood. Lexi can be very rigid in her expectations and may let her emotions out by screaming if she is not happy. You’ll be confident knowing how to handle such outbursts and not be fazed if other people are around. Lexi has limited awareness of danger so when outside the home, the SEN Nanny needs to be very alert and confident in handling Lexi safely. During the school holidays additional hours may be required, this will be by mutual agreement. There is also the option to start the shift at 3.00pm so please enquire if this would be your preference.

Who this job would suit:
This role will really suit an SEN Nanny who has a solid background in autism and behaviour management. The ideal person will have high energy, be animated, flexible in their approach and comfortable working alongside mum. You must be very patient, not fazed by meltdowns and be able to think on your feet quickly. Someone who can bring with them lots of ideas will be very welcomed. Lexi is very tall and strong for her age so someone who is physically fit will be helpful.

What’s great about this job:
This will be a very rewarding position where you can make a positive impact of Lexi’s development and family life on a whole. The family are incredibly friendly and really want to find someone they can work well with who can become part of their team.
