SNAP currently have this excellent opportunity for a motivated, intelligent and caring Support Worker to work with a fantastic young man with cerebral palsy and learning difficulties. Michael, 10, is a sweet natured animal lover who lives in Sevenoaks with his mother, father and two older brothers, though the family are looking to relocate to Uckfield in the next year or so to be closer to Michael’s school.

Michael attends a special school where he is learning new skills and receiving therapy. As well as therapeutic input at school he has an excellent team of therapists, with whom successful applicants will work closely, who are helping him achieve his targets. At home, Michael loves to finger paint, take part in Music and Art therapy, bake cakes and chat to the furry and feathered visitors he gets at the bottom of his garden! Michael loves to engage in messy and creative play so lots of energy and a willingness to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in is a must! Michael loves to be active and afforded the same opportunities as any other child, he has great potential and his staff need to be able to see the potential for him when planning activities.

Michael needs a support worker who will engage with all aspects of his life and routine. Therapies need to be incorporated into his daily life, so they feel natural and not invasive and the successful applicant must be able to work alongside Michael’s family, who are actively involved in his care. The main duties include feeding via PEG as required, providing assistance with all levels of personal care, supporting Michael with his specific communication needs and methods, assisting with activities in and outside the home and other interests as they arise and develop.

This is an amazing opportunity for someone who is interested in engaging with and having a positive impact on Michael’s life. There is great scope for broadening your experience and the opportunity to take ownership of the role. There are 5 hours a week for Team Leader responsibilities, including rota writing, care plan updating, liaising with therapists and school staff and managing equipment and supplies. Michael’s family work with a wonderful case manager who is on hand to offer support when needed. The family are currently in Sevenoaks, but will be relocating to Uckfield in the next year or so. We have a strong desire to establish continuity of care for Michael, so ideally applicants will be from the Uckfield area and travel will be paid from Uckfield to Sevenoaks.
