George aged 19 is a delight to be around. He loves to be kept active – whether it be people watching in Costa Coffee or even going shopping to add to his shoe collection. Yes, George’s parents describe him as little bit of a shopaholic! George has cerebral palsy and epilepsy. He is wheelchair dependent and is non-verbal, he communicates using eye pointing and 'yes' and 'no' hand gestures. All nutrition and medication are administered via PEG. It is key that you spend time with him and really get to know the person he is and to fully understand his likes, dislikes, emotions and hobbies etc.
The role includes planning activities, trips and days out, whilst providing the best care to ensure George is safe, healthy and of course happy! You will assist with his personal care, medication, feeding, physiotherapy and keeping areas he uses clean and tidy. He will need your assistance for all his activities so you'll need to be creative and patient. This role is 2:1 care, working alongside members of the existing care team and family members.
This position would suit someone who is very hands on, who is not afraid to get ‘stuck in’ with activities whilst having a fun, pro-active and with a flexible approach. Previous experience working with teenagers with cerebral palsy is essential, as well as having the confidence to administer George’s medication, as this is an intricate part of the care. To apply for this position please send your CV to Rachael at Snap.
