About this client/child:
Sarah is a little 6-year-old girl who lives with her parents and younger brother. She is happy and friendly young lady who enjoys a variety of different activities and spends a lot of time carrying out imaginary play, making tea and playing with her kitchen. Sarah suffered meningitis, which has caused brain damage and right sided weakness. She tends to walk holding onto someone’s hand or furniture as she is at risk of falling. Sarah has a severe delay to her understanding of spoken language. With all verbal interactions she requires simple language to be used which is backed up with something visual such as signing or symbols. Sarah can use a few simple signs and symbols to express herself such as thank you, cake and please.
Overview of role:
Sarah requires a Support Worker to help develop her independence and work closely with her therapy team. Your key focus will be assisting with the after-school routine and carrying out Sarah’s therapy programmes whilst initiating play and supporting with her personal care and mealtimes. Sarah finds it difficult transitioning from one activity to another and benefits from structure and routine. As Sarah’s Support Worker you will need to keep accurate records of intervention, record any changes and feedback to her family and staff members. The family can offer two or three afternoons per week and can be flexible on which days. Additional hours can be offered in the school holidays if desirable. The role is offering up to £16.00 gross per hour depending on experience.
