Title: Alternate Weekend Support Worker/Buddy
Location: Ely, CB6 
Wage:£14.00 gross per hour weekday, £16.00 gross per hour weekend. Sleeping night allowance £54.00 gross per night, 10.00pm to 7.00am (Any hours worked during the Sleeping night paid at National Minimum Wage) 
Driver required? Essential 
Essential: Supporting a young person with learning disability, working in a family home environment
Start Date: November 2020
Days & Hours:  2 weekends per month: Saturday 10.00am – Sunday 6.00pm and 20-25 hrs/week during holidays. Can be flexible with whole/half-days to suit the right candidate.  Ability to provide care for up to a week during summer holidays would be ideal.
Pets: 2 cats
Accommodation: Double room with bathroom when on duty

About this client/child:
Jake, 16 is a charming and happy young man. He enjoys long walks, swimming and watching TV.  Jake is Autistic and has, severe learning difficulties and epilepsy. His epilepsy is well controlled by daily medication. Jake is non-verbal but uses some signs and in general can express well his needs. Although Jake is normally happy and calm, when frustrated he can present with behaviour that may challenge, so someone fit, strong and vigilant is essential. 

Overview of role:
You role will require you to support Jake over two weekends per month and school holidays. You will assist Jake with self-help skills including personal care, promoting independence and planning stimulating activities. You will need to be confident to de-escalate and defuse challenging behaviour. Jake can clearly express his feelings; you’ll need to recognise when you need to step back and give him space. The main goal is to help Jake take part in everyday life and improve his social and communication skills.
